If it’s just the two of you, or with family or friends, you’ll love this 100 year old detached cottage, renovated to a stylish and comfortable holiday home you will not want to leave. First class housekeeping and up to the minute features will have you relaxing the minute you arrive. Warm and cosy in winter, cool and relaxing in summer.

Argil Cottage is conveniently positioned in a small hamlet, right between the old market towns of Malton (with the Wolds made famous by Hockney), Kirkbymoorside (home to The Yorkshire Vet and Angus Ashworth’s Yorkshire Auction House) and Pickering with its famous North York Moors steam railway. Visit Matthewson’s (Bangers & Cash) at Thornton-le-Dale. James Herriot’s Thirsk, ancient York and Whitby and Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast are equally distanced 40 minutes’ drive away.

We are spoiled for choice for good pubs and restaurants in the area and have the unstuffy Michelin starred restaurants The Star Inn at Harome, The Black Swan at Oldstead and Myse at Hovingham. Castle Howard stately home (Brideshead Revisited), Flamingoland, Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey and Dalby forest are also right on the doorstep. Walkers and cyclists will be in heaven and I can guide you towards my favourite, hidden routes and places.

I enjoy preparing Argil Cottage and score 4 Gold Stars and 100% for housekeeping year on year from Visit England’s Assessment team. The pressure’s on, but it matters to me that everything should be perfect for your stay. I live 20 minutes away and will always be on hand should you need any help or would like me to pop by just to say hello.

What can you expect on your arrival? You’ll enter the garden to the surprise long distance, country views to the purple Moors and horses quietly grazing over the fence. Rattan seating is where you can peacefully take in the scenery at breakfast or drinks at sunset.

Step inside to warmth and Neom scents, cosy woollen throws and cushions for couples to snuggle and ample dining facilities for family and friends to gather. Botham’s biscuits from Whitby and Yorkshire tea will revive you from your journey with eggs from my hens for a hearty breakfast. You’ll have crisp white cotton bedding and a very comfortable bed, white bath sheets and towels and the small things such as hand wash, tea towels, dishwasher tablets, cleaning materials, etc. In fact, everything you could desire and more. A warm and friendly cottage, in a perfect location, where happy memories are made.
